Personally, I believe that ghosts are created by the latent electromagnetic frequencies generated by the chemical-electric impulses communicated from nerve cell to nerve cell in the human brain. These impulses collectively translate into things such as thoughts, memories, ideas, emotions, and dreams (i.e.: the human soul) in the human brain.

According to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity, energy cannot be created nor destroyed. It states that energy merely goes from one state to another, with matter being one of these states. Ergo, one can quite logically assume that these impulses of the brain do not die out during brain death, but instead transfer into the greater electromagnetic frequencies generated by the earth.

One can also assume that EVP is more than a mere voice recording, but a form of capturing a fragment of this latent electromagnetic energy.

To best validate this, one has to know how things are recorded with tape recorders. These devices work by translating sound energy (when picked up on a microphone) and converting it into electronic impulses which are then encoded magnetically on to a magnetic strip of tape. But in the case of EVP, there is no actual sound. So then what is recorded? The answer, in my mind, begins by simply cutting out the middle man (sound in this case) and simply say that the actual tape has been altered by a magnetic field. It is not sound per say, but it plays back as sound nonetheless.
